Our Story

Dom Bakeries is a family-owned bakery off Eastern Michigan University campus next to Depot Town. For decades, people could find fresh donuts, coffee, cakes, pastries and more at Dom’s, all hours of the day.

Like many other Cambodian refugees seeking the “American dream,” Ly learned the basics of working in a donut shop in California. With Fea’s background being a cook at his family’s Chinese restaurant in South Dakota, his family packed their bags and moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan in 1996. This is where Fea and Ly immersed themselves in Dom Bakeries— a 24-hour donut shop originally started by David and Bronwyn Barricklow in the 1970s. In March 2020, Dom’s closed for two months during the COVID-19 lockdown for safety concerns and once reopened, Ypsi showed their greatest support by showing up in lines at the drive-thru down Washtenaw Rd.

Today, while Dom’s has shortened its hours it is still a place for anyone to gather and grab their daily treat and cup of coffee or find sweets for all occasions. The family continues to serve fresh baked goods and donuts six days a week to Southeast Michigan.
